Singer-songwriter Dion Roy was born in Namibia and raised in South Africa, and is now a rising artist on the NYC music scene. Dion’s latest EP, “The Nearest Light” (June 2010), was co-produced by Scott Reibling, known for his work with Weezer and Cobra Starship, and reached #8 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter album charts. Additionally, songs from the new EP, as well as his debut album “Gallery” (June 2009), have been licensed for use on network TV including MTV’s “The Real World”, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” on E!, “Bad Girls Club” on Oxygen and “Tosh.0” on Comedy Central. From his bio: “Known for writing an unforgettable pop-rock hook, Dion has created his own style comparable to artists like Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn and The Postal Service”.

Dion will be performing at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA on Thursday, October 7th at 8pm (Doors 7:30pm).

Today’s Sacramento Bee had a nice article on all-ages music venues here in Sactown. Hey, music doesn’t care how old you are! You can read their article here.

It begins:

Much has been made of midtown and downtown Sacramento’s resurgent night life scene, with its wine bars and swank cocktail lounges. But a different renaissance is occurring as well – one less shiny, more grass-roots and definitely aimed at a younger crowd.

Sacramento’s all-ages music scene, once mostly spread out to suburban venues such as the Boardwalk and Club Retro, both in Orangevale, has centralized over the past few years and especially the past several months, with several intriguing all-ages (as opposed to 21-plus or 18-plus) venues opening either in or within a guitar pick’s throw of midtown.
