Howlin’ Woods, Relic 45, and Seamoose will share the bill at Marilyn’s on Friday 11/11/11. We love writing that date! As for the show, it’s at 9:30 and cost is $7.00 so obviously you should go.

About the bands:

Howlin Woods is a 4-piece band based out of Santa Barbara, CA. that combines folky soulful vocals, melodic lead guitar, and a driving rhythym section, HW has been performing steadily throughout California since 2009.

All members have been playing music together since 2002, jamming in various forms with friends and fellow musicians.

In early 2009, brothers Jordan and Griffin Chetakian introduced songs they had written to drummer, Matthew Farrington and bassist, Brian Chandler. They instantly knew that they had found a sound and vibration that felt just right.

HW has crafted a sound all their own, collectively composing over 30 songs in just over a year and are continuously creating original sound through their love of music each time they enter their studio.

While the HW live experience consists mostly of originals compositions melded with improvisation, they are not ashamed to pay tribute to some of their greatest influences with cover songs ranging from Nick Drake to DJ Shadow, Grateful Dead to Talking Heads, Nina Simone to Pink Floyd, Otis Redding to Black Sabbath, etc.

HW has had the pleasure to the share the stage with acclaimed acts such as The Devil Makes Three, Alberta Cross, Fitz & The Tantrums, and Dengue Fever.

Relic 45 is a new and upcoming group of young energetic blues based rockers. Their blues electric core mixed with acoustic interludes will reel you in and make you want to rock all night long. Lead by headman Jeremy Briggs unique and powerful voice, Relic 45 has just started to hit the rock scene in Sacramento. The background vocals and heavy bass of Ryan Tillema, lead guitar of Tyler Canaday and percussions of Travis Simas make this group an unstoppable juggernaut. With a mix of covers and originals, Relic 45 will have you singing along and asking when their first album will be cut. Come out October 7th to hear the new sound of Sacramento and enjoy Relic 45′s blues bash

Pinning Relic 45 to a specific genre is no easy task. This brand new Sacramento band is keeping everyone guessing. With a solid foundation in heavy blues and rock, Relic 45 keeps the heads bobbin’ and feet tappin’ until the last song ends. Truly a band that must be experienced live to appreciate all there is to offer. Spending an evening with Relic 45 is never a disappointment!

Bring your hats and party favors, step into the funk-o-sphere, and transport yourselves to funkier times with the face-slapping sounds of Seamoose. This wily, rag-tagged bunch of Funk-0-Nauts are professional “move & groove” specialists that have travelled the Pacific Coast showing their captivated audience how to unleash that funky bea…st inside all of them. Currently being researched by NASA as an alternative, renewable energy source, Seamoose and its band of loyal funkateers have been known for their riotous celebrations, uproarious vocalizations, and frenzied disco-ball parties. So get ready. Stay hydrated, limber up, and strap yourselves in and feel the G’s; Seamoose is bringing that outerspace funk.

More about the band, from their press release:

Introducing a brand spanking new musical project that brings together some fabulous California players. This versatile trio, The Bumptet, is throwing down improvisational funk and fusion for three nights in April in celebration of their debut album release.

The Bumptet, featuring Sean Lehe, (Izabella), Jonathan Stoyanoff, (Johnny A., Global Funk Council), and Zack Bowden, (Jackie Greene, Chingus), bring a reckless sophistication to each performance with their improvisational approach to music. The Bumptet is a must-see live band. Music fans of any genre will truly appreciate the level of soulful musicianship shown when this trio comes together on stage. Think Medeski Martin, Wood and Scofield, Soulive, Steve Kimock, and Garaj Mahal all rolled up into a hot pocket. The self-titled debut The Bumptet will drop on April 14th, 2011.

They’ll be playing on Dec. 30th in Nevada City at Cooper’s Ale Works and then on Dec. 31st (New Years Eve) at Marilyn’s here in Sacramento. The New Years Eve gig will be $15 Advance and $20 Door.

From their press release:

Izabella has been an area mainstay since their inception. Over the last 5 years the band has grown tremendously, evident in their evolved live performances. No longer a blooming band, Izabella has truly blossomed, gaining the respect of West Coast musicians and critics alike. Their fluid blending of rock-inspired guitar and soul-driven keys breathes new life into both genres “Izabella is a continually evolving Northern California unit that oozes positivity anchored to serious chops and strong songwriting. Archetypically ‘jam band’ in nature, they encompass soul, rock, pop, and jazz as if all lived happily in one big bed.” –Jambase

Izabella has performed well over 250 gigs, including some key performances at summer festivals: High Sierra, 4 Peaks, Las Tortugas, Summer Meltdown, Oregon County Fair, and Bobolink. This solid tour schedule combined with an elevated level of stage and light production has helped Izabella garner various accolades, including the Jambands.com title, “New Groove of the Month” back in August 2008. In 2009, Izabella was nominated for the SAMIEs (Sacramento Area Music Awards) and won Best of Sacramento, Editors’ Pick for Sacramento magazine.

Come out and show some love for Izabella.

Friday December 10th – An evening with Jackie Greene – Doors open at 8:00 – This event is SOLD OUT, but you can get in (until occupancy is maxed out) at the door, (standing room only). National recording star Jackie Greene returns to Marilyn’s on K. Jackie Greene has a commanding stage presence, and he plays every instrument he lays hands on (at one Marilyn’s performance he played several guitars, a pocketful of harmonicas, drums, keyboards …even a plywood box). He is one of those rare talents that embraces all aspects of a performance. He is both a poet and a songwriter (one person said to think Bob Dylan with a better voice). “Greene can write any damned thing he wants to and has the heart to pull it off,” wrote Thom Jurek of All Music Guide.

This show gives local fans a rare opportunity to enjoy the national star in an intimate setting. Marilyn’s is located on the K Street Mall between 9th and 10th (but closer to 9th).
