Izabella At The Park And At Marilyn’s

Izabella is fresh from a fierce performance at Bobolink Music Festival and heading back to Sacramento. They will perform for a full day of soul infused dance tunes on July 9th, beginning at the Concert in the Park and continuing the party at Marilyn’s on K.  The Marilyn’s show begins at 9PM and tickets are available for $8 or $5 with a Park bracelet.

“Izabella, a continually evolving Northern California unit that oozes positivity anchored to serious chops and strong songwriting. Archetypically ‘jam band’ in nature, they encompass soul, rock, pop, and jazz as if all lived happily in one big bed.” –Jambase

About Izabella, from the press release:

Since its inception in Fall 2006, and after hitting the road full-time in 2008, Izabella has performed well over 250 gigs, including some key performances at summer festivals: High Sierra, 4 Peaks, Las Tortugas, Summer Meltdown, Oregon County Fair, and Bobolink. This solid tour schedule combined with an elevated level of stage and light production has helped Izabella garner various accolades, including the Jambands.com title, “New Groove of the Month” back in August 2008. In 2009, Izabella was nominated for the SAMMIEs (Sacramento Area Music Awards) and won Best of Sacramento, Editors’ Pick for Sacramento magazine.

Should be a fun show…

Sal Valentino, Ricky Berger, Tomorrow!

Sacramento semi-legend Sal Valentino first found fame as the singer and main man in the 60s band The Beau Brummels (Laugh Laugh, Just A Little) and also the cult favorite Stoneground. Now he is performing as a singer-songwriter. As for Ricky Berger, she is one of Sacramento’s unique women singer to blend pop, country, jazz, and her own charismatic style. More information about the show can be found here.

To complete the evening, Sal and Ricky will join forces for a medley of duets that span countless generations across the entire musical spectrum. This vocal pairing combines all of the essential ingredients for a perfect evening: experience, new vision, the joy of timeless songs, and of course the lush strings directed by local Sacramento icon, David Houston.

Hear Some Grownup Noise At Marilyn’s

Boston band The Grownup Noise are coming through Sacramento on tour and will play on Wednesday night, August 12th at Marilyn’s on K (908 K St.) at 8PM. They will be playing with other local Sac bands Cowboy Killers and Be Bold Brave Robot.

This is their third time playing in Sacramento.  This show is also a part of their continued effort towards green touring, as they recently converted their van to run on used vegetable waste oil.

From their press release:

From this show the band will continue on their fifth national tour as they criss- cross the country playing 20+ dates during July and August, before finally coming home in September.   This tour is also part of the band’s continued efforts towards “green” touring, as their van runs on recycled fryalator oil that they collect on the road.

The band has been playing for almost five years at this point, and they have often been compared with other modern indie pop bands such as Stars, Death Cab for Cutie, and Ra Ra Riot.  The unique underpinnings of The Grownup Noise’s music are what have garnered them true praise, however, as their experimentation with song form, style (from stomp-along gypsy rock to sober ballads) and instrumentation (who says cello and marimba have no place in indie rock?) yields perfectly stunning results.

The boys and girl are very excited to get back on the road as this tour is coming on the heels of several recent noteworthy successes, including opening for Canadian indie rockers Plaza Central and a recent noteworthy musical appearance on MTV.

Check them out. Marilyn’s is a nice place to see a show anyway…

”Close your eyes and you might think you were listening to a Cure show, take a peek and you might think you were at a Cure show. Hauntingly close”- Steve West (famous 80′s radio personality -91x FM San Diego)
