Jackie Greene At Marilyn’s And Blue Lamp

Singer-songwriter Jackie Greene returns to play a couple Sacramento venues. He’ll be at Marilyn’s on March 23rd and The Blue Lamp on March 24th.

For the Marilyn’s gig, the show starts at 9:00 pm. The venue is located on the K Street Mall between 9th and 10th (but closer to 9th).

For the Blue Lamp gig, the doors open at 8pm and the show is at 9pm. Note: the show is for 21 & over. The Blue Lamp is located at 1400 Alhambra Blvd.

The Soft White Sixties At The Blue Lamp

San Francisco’s The Soft White Sixties are described as “a hard-driving, original rock & roll band that delivers R&B grooves and pop hooks with the transformative power of raw soul”. Sound good? Well, they will be at The Blue Lamp this weekend, Saturday February 19th at 9:00 PM. Laced and Genius and the Thieves are also on the bill.

From their bio:

The ‘Sixties rapidly expanded their reach in 2010 with featured slots in SF’s IndieFest and Summerfest music festivals, prime-time television appearances and sold-out performances on Sacramento’s indie circuit, and a successful whirlwind West Coast Tour from Seattle to Los Angeles. With no more than an out-of-print 7″ and a burned CD of studio tracks, the group has also garnered airplay on SF’s flagship rock station Live 105, who named The ‘Sixties as one of the top ten bands in the Bay Area.

The group most recently headlined a near-capacity concert at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, and are slated to open SF’s NoisePop festival on February 24th at The Independent.

Zepparella – Almost Led Zeppelin

Our music correspondent Mike D saw some music here in town recently. Here is his report:

Went to Rhythm and and Ribs at Raley field and saw Zepparella, a female Zeppelin cover group. Loved them. The guitarist, Gretchen Menn was excellent, using her violin bow to scratch out the middle guitar bit of Whole Lotta Love. She left a couple of Jimmy Page notes out there, but all in all did a great job of covering one of the greatest ever guitarists.

And she was good looking and you could tell she loved what she was doing. The lead singer, Anna somebody was also very good; didn’t try to be Plant, but delivered in a sexy sort of way. The bass guitarist and drummer had hair hanging in their faces, so never got a good look. The drummer had a ton of energy; must have lost ten pounds during the set. I enjoyed the earlier covers more than the later ones. They play in Sacramento occasionally (the Blue Lamp last February). They’re currently on a West Coast trip, playing in Sparks, Nevada on Saturday. I’ll go see ‘em out next chance I get.

Did anyone else see this show? It sounds like a winner…
